Swinderby, Lincolnshire: Olly Adegboyega

CONVICTED (2023) | Olly Adegboyega, born December 1967, previously of Morton Road, Swinderby, Lincoln LN6 but as of November 2023 believed to be in Shoby, Melton Mowbray* – for the mistreatment of seven dogs kept at his home.

Olly Adegboyega, who also uses the first name Oludotun, pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to six dogs by failing to provide adequate nutrition. He also failed to meet the welfare needs of seven dogs.

The RSPCA attended the defendant’s home in December 2022 and discovered the mistreated dogs.

RSPCA inspector Daniel Bradshaw described the scene that confronted him: “The hallway carpet was soaked in urine and there were faeces trodden all over upstairs and downstairs, the smell of ammonia was very overpowering and stung my eyes.”

Many of the dogs were underweight with their ribs, hips and spines visible through their fur. Their sleeping areas were covered in faeces.

A deceased dog was found slumped up against the fencing of the dog run. Her only bedding was an old piece of damp soiled carpet.

When inspector Bradshaw moved her body it was apparent that something had eaten away part of her muzzle.

The six surviving dogs were examined by a vet and given treatment.

One of the dogs was extremely thin, had painful arthritis and numerous age-related health concerns The sad decision was made by a vet to put him to sleep to prevent him suffering further.

An expert vet who examined the dogs said in their evidence: “It is my opinion that these dogs were thin or emaciated due to malnutrition / starvation (simply lack of enough appropriate food).”

They added: “The emaciation and very thin body condition of all of the dogs was obvious despite their thick coats.

“The dogs were all suffering because of malnutrition / near starvation, and most had developed anaemia and detriment to their health.

“Had this situation continued their condition would have worsened further, eventually resulting in organ failure and death.”

They concluded that from the examination and blood results of these dogs, they suspect they have all suffered from malnutrition for at least six to twelve weeks and possibly longer.

The dogs had all been signed over into RSPCA care. They have since been rehomed by the RSPCA Lincolnshire Mid and Lincoln Branch.

In mitigation the defendant, who was unrepresented, said he had owned dogs for 15 years and that they had been a central part of his life. The dogs were all well socialised and friendly. He was said to have taken full responsibility and was devastated.

Sentencing | 12 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months; costs of £1,504. Banned from keeping animals for 10 years.

Additional Information

We were first contacted about Olly Adegboyega as long ago as April 2019. The source was a former partner of his and told us he was a serial dog abuser, not to mention a perpetrator of domestic violence.

The source’s involvement with Adegboyega was in 2016 when she said he had six dogs whom he would “lock in cages, no food nor water for days on end when he went away”.

She added that he “was violent to me and hurt me so I had to walk away”.

The source contacted us again following Adegboyega’s prosecution and said:

I used to know this monster years ago . He had one of my dogs sister, a quality well bred GSD that was sadly one of the dogs that either died or was removed from him.

In my time knowing him, the dogs lived in their own urine and faeces – I reported him and also to his landlord when he stayed in West Yorkshire.

The RSPCA went out to his home but took no further action, but at this point they were not starved just living in shit.

I’m sure many women also will come forward to comment on here, as he was a womaniser, with many partners who did not know about each other. He used women financially and was violent

I’m devastated to read about the dogs , but glad they are all away from him. Two of the malamutes , one is named Smartie , originally came from a rescue.

He was an accountant with ASDA Wakefield.

He also lived in Wakefield, Kippax, and sub-let a property in Menai Bridge. He is from London with family in Wimbledon.

A total evil narcissist.

All of the above must of course be treated as allegations, but Adegboyega has the right of reply if he wishes to get in touch.

Update | November 2023

Magham Down, East Sussex: Jack Holt

CONVICTED (2020) | Jack Holt, born 9 June 1993, of Nodes Farm, Magham Down, Hailsham, East Sussex BN27 1PW – sent 38 sheep in poor condition to slaughter.

Animal abusing farmer Jack Holt from Magham Down, East Sussex

Jack Holt pleaded guilty to two offences under the Animal Welfare Act after he transported sheep to a Kent abattoir while they were suffering from foot rot.

A total of 38 sheep in poor condition were sent to slaughter.

Ovine foot rot is an infectious, contagious disease of sheep that causes severe lameness.

Richard Strawson of East Sussex County Council’s Trading Standards said: “Farmers have a legal duty to properly look after the animals in their care and this clearly had not happened in this case. Our officers were shocked that these sheep had been allowed to be transported given their condition and the suffering this would have caused them. This case demonstrates that we won’t hesitate to take action when it comes to the mistreatment of animals.”

Holt pleaded guilty to two offences under Section 4 of the Animal Welfare Act 2006. He was fined £580 fine and must pay £600 costs.

Eastbourne/Polegate, East Sussex: Tyler Earwaker and Liam Smith

Earwaker pleaded guilty to six offences and Smith pleaded guilty to two. The pair were prosecuted by the RSPCA following an investigation which included examination of horrific mobile phone footage.

Liam Smith (right) with friend and fellow persecutor of wildlife Bobby King. As far as we know King was not involved in this particular act of animal cruelty but his FB page contains several photos of animals he has killed, sometimes with a catapult.

RSPCA inspector Carroll Lamport launched the investigation in May 2019 following a tip-off. She said, “When we checked [their] phones we found lots of videos of Earwaker and Smith releasing captured wild rabbits and setting their dogs on them.

“Some of the videos show the chase taking place across fields while others take place in fenced areas such as a basketball court and a children’s playground meaning the rabbits had no real chance of escape.

“It’s really upsetting to watch the footage and the rabbits must have been extremely distressed before being released. The chase would have been terrifying for them and the manner in which they were killed would have resulted in unnecessary suffering.”

Liam Smith is pictured left and Earwaker right with likely partner in crime Bobby King, who wasn’t prosecuted on this occasion, in the middle.
Earwaker and King up to no good as usual.

The videos show the pair encouraging the dogs to chase down the rabbits – some of which are clearly in shock – and in one case the rabbits are kicked and thrown onto the ground.

A warrant was executed by police on May 14 at an address in Eastbourne. RSPCA officers joined police and a number of mobile phones were seized.

Five dogs were found at the premises – belonging to Earwaker’s family – and the RSPCA said all appeared in good condition. A number of hutches and cages were located in the garden, some with ferrets inside.

Inspector Lamport said, “We found long hunting nets, often used for catching animals, and a number of animal carriers in the shed and Earwaker told me he used the large trap for rabbits, using carrots as bait.

“Some of his coats were bloodstained and a number of phones and an iPad were seized.”

Four dogs – two lurchers and two terriers – were seized by police and Earwaker was interviewed.

Inspector Lamport later received a call from Smith’s father claiming one of the dogs seized belonged to him.

She said, “Mr Smith told me he’d bought the terrier for his son, We discovered that his son, Liam Smith, had been going out with Earwaker rabbiting and ferreting.

“They were catching rabbits and ‘dropping’ them in front of their dogs for the dogs to chase in order to train the dogs they thought the latter was legal.”

The court determined the four dogs should be returned to their owners.

Sentencing:
Earwaker – 12-month community order with 200 hours of unpaid work. He was disqualified from keeping rabbits for five years and ordered to pay £300 costs and £85 victim surcharge.

Update August 2022

Tyler Earwaker has been banned for life from keeping or transporting birds after cruelly keeping a wild goldfinch in a cage.

Officers attended a property in Windmill Hill, Polegate, on January 23, 2022 and found the wild goldfinch (pictured) locked in a cage.

The RSPCA attended and took the goldfinch into its care. Sadly, despite the best efforts of veterinary staff, the bird died 10 days later due to the distress it suffered being taken from its natural habitat and caged.

Earwaker, now said to be of Beatty Road, Eastbourne was arrested on suspicion of possessing a wild bird contrary to the Wildlife and Countryside Act. After being interviewed by officers from the Rural Crime Team, he was charged and pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared at Hastings Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday August 10, 2022.

He was sentenced to 100 hours of unpaid work, ordered to pay a £95 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs, and given a Community Protection Warning (CPW) that instructs him not to trespass on any private land without the landowner’s written permission.

He was also banned for life from dealing in, keeping, transporting or arranging transport for any type of bird or wildfowl.

Rural Crime Team PC Carlo Leone said: “The trade in wild songbirds such as this is a cruel one. Removing a wild bird from its natural habitat and placing it in a tiny cage for a person’s own amusement can cause the birds to suffer immeasurably, as happened in this case.

“We take offences against all animals incredibly seriously, and will not tolerate any behaviour which causes distress or harm to wildlife.”

Uckfield, East Sussex: Daniel McCreedy

CONVICTED (2017) | Daniel McCreedy, born 11/05/1984, of Selby Rise, Uckfield, East Sussex TN22 5EE

McCreedy, then of Campbell Road in Brighton, was caught on CCTV carrying out the beating on his friend’s Staffordshire bull terrier cross at the Royal Oak pub in Lewes, East Sussex, on April 13, 2017.

He pleaded guilty to subjecting the dog, known as Babe, to unreasonable violence and causing him unnecessary suffering.

The court was shown a 20-minute video of the attack, in which McCreedy punches Babe 36 times, kicks him four times, chokes him twice with a lead and proceeds to pour a beer over his head.

RSPCA Inspector Tony Woodley, who led the investigation said: “Watching this video is just heart-breaking and stomach-churning. This dog is completely subordinate and this prolonged period of abuse is totally unwarranted and frankly disturbing.

“The poor dog is just absolutely terrified and also confused. One minute McCreedy is hitting him repeatedly in the head, the next minute he is cuddling the dog in a bid to pretend he is a caring animal owner. It is just horrific to see and a vet who watched this said that in their opinion there is no doubt this dog was caused pain and suffering during this sustained attack.

“It is perhaps lucky that the poor dog did not suffer any lasting physical injuries as a result of this attack, but he would clearly have been severely traumatised by McCreedy’s actions.

“I would like to thank everyone who has helped to bring this case to court including the witnesses who gave statements and of course the landlady who provided us with the CCTV which quickly led to McCreedy’s identification.”

Speaking after the sentencing, Babe’s owner, James Hardaker, from Moulsecoomb, said: “Babe was always very friendly to people, but now barks at them because he is scared. I’ve been advised to have him put down.

“I am going to try and re-train him as a pup to get him back to how he was.”

Sentencing: 12-month community order, 20 days of rehabilitation for mental health illness, and an eight-week curfew. Ordered to pay £300 in costs and an £85 government surcharge. Disqualified from having any contact with animals until further notice.

Dog Magazine

Uckfield, East Sussex: Walter Doe

CONVICTED (2014) | Walter Roger Doe, born c. 1989, of Batts Bridge Caravan Park, Batts Bridge Road, Maresfield, Uckfield TN22 2HN – illegally docked the tail of a Jack Russell puppy.

Doe, a traveller, left the tiny pup in ‘excruciating pain’ after using a sharp tool to remove his tail two inches from its base.

The RSPCA removed the black and white puppy, named Jack, from Doe’s care in July 2013 following a report of concern for the animal’s welfare.

They found Jack with a bandage around his tail and in obvious pain.

The puppy was taken to a vet who removed the bandage and found a very raw wound, about two inches from the tail base, with the rest of the tail removed.

Career criminal Doe, whose convictions included theft and domestic violence, was sent to jail for 12 weeks for causing unnecessary suffering to the puppy and failing to seek veterinary treatment for his open wound.

Speaking after the sentencing, RSPCA Inspector Andrew Kirby said: ‘The prison sentence reflects how seriously the court took the suffering caused to the puppy.

He added: “The vet said it was a very clean-cut wound and must have been made with a sharp tool.”

‘We have no proof about what was used to dock Jack’s tail but, whether it was a knife or a pair of scissors, he would have been in agony.

‘Cutting through the bone of the tail must have been excruciatingly painful and no attempt at all was made to relieve this pain.

‘Tail docking is such a brutal way to treat a young animal in any case.’

Sentencing | 12 weeks’ imprisonment. Banned from keeping animals for 10 years (expires April 2024).
