Coalville, Leicestershire: Ellis Hopkins

Traveller and professional boxer Ellis Hopkins sold poorly, underweight puppies under the name Bardon Bullies. Very sadly one of the puppies died shortly after being bought.

Licensed dog breeder Hopkins, who specialised in French bulldogs and American pocket bullies, was investigated for a number of breaches of dog breeding regulations. This followed reports to the RSPCA by three witnesses that puppies that were up for sale were underweight, lethargic and living in dirty conditions with animal waste on the floor.

Dogs that had been sold became ill shortly after they were taken to their new homes and one died.

North West Leicestershire District Council has now revoked Hopkins’ breeding licence.

Councillor Andrew Woodman said: “Our licensing teams play an important role in ensuring animal welfare standards are met in the district and will always respond to concerns and complaints raised by the public.

“It is clear that this breeder had no respect for their licence or the dogs they had a responsibility for and I’m sure our communities will join me in applauding our officers for the action they have taken.”

There were several regulations she was found to have breached.

They included breeding more than her licence allowed and providing misleading information to officers investigating her.

During a routine inspection in July 2020, Hopkins failed to provide council officers with records of litters, which are required under animal welfare law.

Puppies were also sold without records of vaccinations, vet checks, or being given flea and worm treatments.

She had been limited to one litter at a time and no more than five per year, with one litter per female. But during a visit by Leicestershire Police to Hopkins’ home in September 2020, they found 38 dogs, which included puppies from at least five different litters.

She had also bred at least two of her female dogs twice within a 12-month period. The animals should not have been bred more than once a year to protect them from pain, suffering, injury and disease, according to her licence.

Sentencing; licence revoked; not yet prosecuted for animal cruelty.

  1. Ellis is by no means any of these things. What a absolute mess of a report when there are genuine puppy farms out there that need sorting out. I have one of the pups from Ellis and I couldn’t have got him from a more loved breeder. House was spotless and he is the happiest pup I know! She even took him to the vets multiple times at my request to get him checked out and footed the cost. To all you morons sending her death threats get a grip and put your energy elsewhere! Quite simple put if you haven’t had a dog from her you haven’t got a clue so wind your neck in!

    1. Your obviously a friend then of her. She’s a disgrace to the good breeders out there 😵😵😵😵😵😵😵

    2. Lol 😂 stop protecting your scabby mate , ble frenchies are against the breed standard for 1 and pocket bullies are a load of poorly bred dogs. She’s a cunt deserves worse tbh

  2. As if this year hasn’t taught us enough that going on witch hunts can destroy somebodies life .
I bought my little Ernie off Ellis and he’s a happy healthy boy, he has a little hair lip and was loved so much, I recently heard about a breeder who was going to have one of her pups down because it was blind.
Not Ellis If anything they wanted to keep hold of baby stich (Ernie ) because they are caring and professional breeders.
To the person who wrote this report I would like to remind that is an illegal act which is open to prosecution, to publish someone’s private details with the intention of causing harm or damaging someone’s reputation.

      1. 10000% lol 😂. Blue frenchies akd ‘ pocket bulldogs ‘ what a disgusting excuse of a person

    1. The publication will have checked its facts. It is a verbatim report of a Council investigation. It would not risk a defamation charge.

  3. You now how I know it’s true, my son brought one of the puppies that within hours was admitted to the vets with various problems including bleeding from its anus! She was with the vet for a week and was close to death on several occasions. So you wanna know how we know who sold the puppy??? Because the bank transfer was to her. So excuse me for wanting to lose my **** when I hear how great a breeder she is when I witnessed that poor pup suffering and dying before my eyes because she just wanted money! So yeah sing her praises responsible dog owners

    1. Come on Charlie take you head out of the clouds! She sells dying dogs with no remorse and when she’s messaged to be told the condition of the pup she blanks the text! Absolute scum and let’s hope karma comes knocking. No ones making this up, I’m not a breeder, I don’t know these people would never choose to know these people, it’s just unfortunate that she and her cronies came in our lives.

  4. Ellis Hopkins is posting pictures of her professional set up which everyone is praising her for and blowing smoke up her ****! But what about the house in Quorn where all the non pedigree cheaper dogs are sold from. Dread to think what happened to those poor dogs because when the rspca went 2 days later they’d disappeared! The media on this occasion are telling the truth! She can blame her sister in law but it was Ellis she called to check the price and her account details!

  5. Thanks to UK Animal Cruelty Files for highlighting this.
I will be emailing the RSPCA and Leicestershire police to push for a prosecution and it would be great if as many people as possible could do this.

  6. Viewed puppies 2 years ago was horrendous conditions so many Unwell looking dogs
Puppies had water with umbilical cord in. One dog dragging his bum on concrete clearly riddled with worms
Did report but had no reply

  7. Dispicable waste of oxygen pure evil. Pictures dont lie. She sold unhealthy pups for monitory gain. I hope kalma comes her way the evil cunt😡all you idiots defending the greedy bitch.. open your fuckin eyes

  8. Waste of a human being. Honestly what a sick and vile creature. How could you do this! Sick bitch needs locking up.

  9. Thank god shes been stopped those poor puppies 😢 absolutely disgusting making profit from other peoples misfortunes:(

  10. Good to see the local authority doing their job , breaking the law and causing suffering to animals is unforgivable.

  11. So why is she still breeding dogs? She has a phantom poodle she is using for breeding 😢 she should be banned from keeping animals for life

  12. I blame the council and animal welfare This evil woman was already on a ban from keeping animals by a court when the council allowed her to have a licence to breed Why did they let it happen and from what I,ve read she’s back breeding and selling The laws are weak the punishment a waste of time . These poeple need stopping

  13. I purchased a puppy from her a few weeks before this all come out – and so I know that all that has been said is TRUE!

My pup was skin and bone and was riddled with worms and had ear and skin issues. She was scared of her own shadow and it’s taken me 2 months to get her out of her shell. She is a lovely weight now and healthy girl.

I contacted E about the issues and she couldn’t care less!!

To be fair when I picked my pup up the actual kennels were immaculate however no dog especially frenchies should be in outside kennels – no matter how set up they are.

    1. This sounds exactly like my sons pup brought from that excuse for a human! Riddled with worms, mange and numerous other problems, within 24hrs she was admitted to a vets and stayed there a week. Nearly lost her. She is as fit as a fiddle but but it took all of my sons savings to get her there. As a true animal lover he wouldn’t of done anything else! He advised her of the situation and he was ignored.
