CONVICTED (2021) | Daryn Devine, who is also known as Daryn Davies, born 30 November 1992, of Drybeck Grove, St Helens WA9 3WG – left a dog suffering in pain for six years with a severe ear infection
Daryn Devine’s dog Angel needed urgent medical treatment after he neglected her and left her in a sorry state.
A senior clinician at Greater Manchester Animal Hospital who examined the American bulldog described her ears as “the most severe examples of chronic pinnal thickening and narrowing of the ear canals I have seen in my 10 years as a veterinary surgeon”.
She added: “I imagine the dog had been suffering with ear pain for years, on and off due to repeated flare ups, which were either not reported to a vet in a timely manner or left to continue when veterinary advice was frankly ignored.”
Devine, who lived in Liverpool for a time, pleaded guilty to one animal welfare offence when he appeared before magistrates.
RSPCA Inspector Caren Goodman-James went to Devine’s home address on October 30 and was invited into the property by a woman who said she was looking after the dog while Devine was in prison.
When Caren arrived the garden was covered in rubbish and faces, and Devine’s home was strewn with litter.
While there she observed Angel and could see how she regularly shook her head and would rub her head against the sofa.
Her right ear was inflamed and looked hard and solid. Her other ear was inflamed and red, she also had red around her muzzle. Her claws were long, overgrown and folding back under her foot with all four of her feet inflamed and red.
She told the woman that the dog was in need of urgent veterinary attention and the woman agreed to allow Caren to take Angel for treatment at the RSPCA’s Greater Manchester Animal Hospital.
Staff at the hospital were very concerned for Angels’ poor health but in their care she responded well to treatment.
They were also able to access her clinical records from a vet she was registered with in Liverpool and found she had a long history of ear and skin infections which were first noted six years before in 2014.
The notes also showed how Angel had a stent placed in her badly infected ears to open them up for medication two weeks later.
But Angel was not presented at the vets again until three months later causing her ear canal to be more thickened. Leaving the stents in place for that length of time would also have caused her severe discomfort.
Her clinical notes show follow-up veterinary appointments were also ignored.
Caren said: “The owner was aware that Angel had severe ear problems but left her with the worsening condition rather than taking her for treatment. There is never an excuse not to seek veterinary help for a pet.
“Sadly she was left in this suffering state for six years and it must have been awful for her to have this constant aggravation.
“She was really subdued and very sorry for herself when we first took her on but now she is really happy and bouncy – it just goes to show how a bit of TLC can make all the difference.”
Sentencing: jailed for 12 weeks. 10-year ban on keeping dogs.
Just goes to show. The Provisions you have to make sure, are in place for your Pets, if there is a Possibility That You Are Sent To Prison. Especially for longer periods of time.
This is a load of shite I was the owner of angel and what you have said and the echo is completely false you lieing basterds for one i never lived in 6 dry breck grove in st Helen’s that was my girlfriend’s mums house i have only been in that house once in my life my address in st Helen’s were 12 oxley street and 94 herbert street iv only had two address in st Helen’s as I’m not from there I’m from liverpool I originally went to jail for selling class a drug so had to leave my dog with my girlfriend as I was going to jail and there no mention of her at all and her family who actually abandoned angel in that house as they moved to clock face and told me on the prison phone witch is record that they took angel with them the RSPCA told me that they found her abandoned in there old house with no food or water and there is no mention of the women in charge or the case was speaking to my aunty while this was flying on she told my aunty that they wernt looking at prosecuting me they were try prosecut 3 adults that actually lived in that address her mum her step dad and her the rspca also told my aunty that we could get the dog back and the rspca women told my ex girlfriend to take the dog to the vets she had 2 weeks to do so so my mum sent her money to her bank account for angel even on a bank statement saying for angel so she could take her the vets and she never and spent the money on something else but not on what she was ment to it was money to sort angel out no mention of that eirter I only went guilty so she wouldnt get in trouble but I was told if went guilty they drop charges against them as didnt want anyone getting in trouble if I would of known that u would make out that that shite hole house was mine tryna make me out to be a scumbag that abandons animals in a house like that well your wrong and RSPCA are lien basterds as well when they talked to me while I was in prison on the phone witch is recorded to tell me what had happend and my aunty that they wernt looking at prosecuting me wtf ino why cause I was all ready in prison for drugs so they most seen it as fuck him he all ready in prison the scumbags and she wasnt left for 6 year without going the vets as I went loads of times when I lived in st Helen’s and my mates went with me and never even lived in st Helen’s for 6 years so that also a lie you ban me from have pets for 10 years but my ex girlfriend and her family that actually abandoned my angel noting happens to them and now she has a new dog when she was the one to abandon her in her old house was never my house and all have do is check with the housing I never lived there at all and was no mention off me back and forward to family court at same time when angel had stent in her ear so ye might been week or to late but I was going though family court at same time no mention of that eirter you scumbags make me out to live like a tramp and that no metion that i have learning difficulties and adhd or that me mum sent my ex girlfriend money for angel though internet banking you lien basterds or never named them noting happens to them when they the ones that actually abandoned my dog and I got fucked for it ye that is real justice you scumbag name me not naming my ex girlfriend millie dearden and her family and RSPCA lien to my aunty saying there look at prosecuting then not me and promise me and my aunty that we would get angel back and then you put on she lovely friendly dog why you think that is cos the way I raised her she brilliant with kids and other dogs even cats as she was raised with cats and she that good she could walk without a lead as I though her from a puppy to only cross a road if I did I would bet any money in whole world if angel seen me she run stright to me as I loved her and ino she loved me to she used sleep in my bed she had run the whole house my house not there house that you have made out to be mine you fucking scumbags email me when ever you want but that is the truth I loved angel I still do and I hope she goes somewere good as she is a brilliant dog prob the goodest dog out there as I have been raised with dogs since I was younger no metion of that eirter btw nice one for metion all the bad shit and a address that is filthy saying it was my address nice one you bunch of scumbags and I also think it lovely how she can have pets to btw but I cant and I only went guilty so she not get in trouble as the solicitor representing the RSPCA said if I went guilty they drop everything on miss millie dearden so I went guilty so she not get in trouble but I’m not been named if she not so that her name the so called girlfriend that blagged us all and accepted money off my mum to take angel the vets and never did and there bank statement to prove that also nice one for metion that to scumbags
