CONVICTED (2018) | Sally Wilkinson, born 10/12/1985, of Oxford Street, Blackwell, Alfreton DE55 5JT – left her elderly Rottweiler to suffer with an agonising skin condition and to become emaciated
Sally Wilkinson was banned from keeping animals for life after her dying dog was found in the worst state an RSPCA inspector had seen in her 17-year career.
Wilkinson pleaded guilty to two animal welfare offences when she appeared before Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court on 12 November 2018.
The court heard how her emaciated Rottweiler dog, ironically called Chunk, was so thin and had a chronic skin condition it was difficult to establish her breed.
Chunk was just half the weight she should have been – at only 23.4kgs when she should have been 42kgs – and an untreated skin condition also left her with no hair apart from around her paws and some on her back.
RSPCA inspector Helen Mead, who was sent to investigate, said it was the worst case of dog neglect she had seen in her 17-year career.
She told how she went to Wilkinson’s home on September 4, 2018, after the animal welfare charity received a call from a concerned member of the public.
She said: “I smelt the dog’s chronic skin condition when I went into the house, even though she was in another room. Then when I saw Chunk I was horrified as she was in an appalling state.
“She was elderly and emaciated with bones protruding and she had almost no hair due to the chronic skin condition which had been left untreated.
“The skin was crusted, scabby, bleeding and thickened and she was covered in fleas. She had sunken eyes with pus around them. I just knew instantly she was in a bad way and must have been suffering enormously.”
Inspector Mead was given consent to take Chunk to a vets who decided the kindest thing to do would be to put her to sleep.
The vet stated that 14yo Chunk would have suffered horrendously for a period of time, suffering from malnutrition for at least two months and from the chronic skin condition for at least four months.
The judge, in his summing up, stated it was “sustained, systemic neglect” and added “it beggars belief it was allowed to deteriorate to this point”.
Inspector Mead said: “The photographs show Chunk was in such an appalling state.
“I was so upset that things had got so bad there was nothing that could be done to help her other than end her suffering.
“I am in no doubt that this dog’s horrendous suffering could have been avoided if she was taken to a vet and treated when any problems first arose – it should never have got to this situation.”
Sentencing:
Eight-week jail sentence, suspended for two years. Fined £300 and ordered to pay a £75 victim surcharge. Lifetime ban on keeping animals.

Why suspend the sentence, how is that going to make her see the error of her ways, anyone with half a brain could see the dog was suffering, and she must have watched this for far longer than 8 weeks. These ridiculous sentences are the reason people have no faith in the RSPCA or the justice system. She has walked away with nothing but a slap on the wrist, then you wonder why people take things into their own hands. Cruelty is never going to stop until you judges start handing out a sentence to fit the crime.
My dog has a skin condition called Atopic Dermatitus I bet that is what her dog suffered from, but it can be kept at bay by the right diet, as its caused by allergies, right diet and on flare up antibiotics and steroids its a life time condition but like I said with the right diet can be kept at bay most of the time. I believe this person let this dog suffer all her life not just for 8 weeks. Hence, the life time ban and the is premeditated torture she enjoyed watching, or she would of gone to the PDSA or somewhere for help, or given her up to rescue.
She doesn’t need prison to see the errors of her ways as she been seeing them for a very long time. People like her do not think or feel like decent people. They are void of all emotion.. shes a vile person that the world would be better for if she no longer existed. Animal cruelty shows the evilness of her whole being.

Rspca aren’t very good at all…just saw last year that a fox that was in a trap crying all night and then strung up on the front gate for all to see the next morning had no justice…Rspca did nothing .

Absolutely horrific end for a beautiful loyal animal there are no excuses for this appalling neglect even if she couldn’t afford the treatment she could’ve got help from the PDSA. The fact that she has ignored the issue and disgustingly allowed the animal to suffer in this way for an extended period of time is beyond anything I could comprehend and evil and without compassion! She could’ve sought help and or either given the dog up to ensure Chunk was cared for! She obviously hid that fact and has escaped with a measly fine! We pay that for our own dogs treatments and I’d pay it forever if it meant my dog didn’t suffer!

Get to know her, go out with her, date her, have a relationship with her, start doing some outdoor activities, maybe even international travel. Bring her to the USA, take her hiking in one of our many picturesque places. Then handcuff her, somewhere that is rarely traveled by anyone & not visible from the air, and leave her for dead ????. As you leave, let her know that this is the justice that she skated around, but is now being imposed on her.
Btw, there are plenty of National Parks and places within that this could be accomplished… Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Death Valley, Grand Tetons, Yosemite, Yellowstone, etc
