Bradford, West Yorkshire: Abdul Ghani

CONVICTED | (2022) | Abdul Ghafoor Ghani, born April 1997 of 28 Beamsley Road, Frizinghall, Bradford BD18 2DR – raped a pony after creeping into its field in the night while high on drink and drugs.

Corner shop owner Ghani pleaded guilty to having intercourse with an animal in September 2018, after reconnoitring the field in the Bradford area where the Shetland Pony and other horses lived.

Prosecutor Michael Collins told the court that the police found 993 internet searches on Ghani’s phone about sex acts with animals, especially horses.

In August, 2018, the pony’s owners, a mother and daughter, became concerned about things found in the horses’ field shelter. There was a till receipt, a torch, a cucumber, a scrubbing brush and a bag of carrots.

The following month, the pony’s tail had hairs out of place, there was tape on it and a greasy substance on her back end. Black tape and bandage was found nearby and a lump of sugar, not something the owners would feed to their horses.

They reported matters to the police and the pony was examined by a vet. DNA was a match for Ghani.

A police officer on patrol in the area then saw a blue Toyota Yaris parked near the field. Inside the vehicle was a large cucumber, baby oil and a bag of carrots.

Then a black rucksack found in the field was found to contain apples and carrots, biscuits, rope and silver tape.

The Yaris was traced to Ghani who was arrested but said he had done nothing wrong. He told investigating officers he ‘loved the wild’ and would go out at night to watch owls and foxes.

When asked what the rope was for, he explained that it was to hoist himself up into trees to look at owls.

He made no comment when told that his DNA had been found.

Ghani already had seven convictions for 17 offences, mainly relating to drink, drug and driving offences,.

Jonathan Turner, Ghani’s barrister, said his client was overwhelmingly ashamed and embarrassed.

The offence was almost four years ago and he had led a law-abiding life since then.

Mr Turner conceded there was ‘little positive’ to be said about the offence except that the pony wasn’t injured.

Ghani was under the influence of alcohol and drugs when he visited the field. He had committed the offence because of them. He had been seen by a psychiatrist who did not find him to be mentally ill.

Mr Turner said that having sex with horses was not a fantasy for Ghani, just strange behaviour. He had spoken of feeling he was like something in a dream.

Judge Andrew Hatton said Ghani had denied the offence up until the day of his trial although the evidence against him was overwhelming.

He had made several visits to reconnoitre the field and brought food to make the pony more familiar of him. This demonstrated some planning and the very large number of internet searches on his phone showed his interest in bestiality with horses.

Although there had been a delay to sentence, Ghani could have been dealt with 18 months earlier if he had pleaded guilty.

Judge Hatton added: “Owners of horses and ponies are entitled to feel their animals are safe from people like you. The message must go out that this sort of grossly unnatural behaviour will not be considered for suspended sentences of imprisonment.”

Judge Hatton said it wasn’t an isolated act, it was “a well-planned and deliberate descent into bestiality.”

Sentencing | 10 months in jail. Criminal Behaviour Order banning him from entering the land where the horses lived, or any other land where horses, ponies and donkeys were kept. He was banned from driving for two years and five months. Ghani must sign on the sex offender register for ten years. £110 compensation for the vet bill.

Cwmbran, South Wales: Dean Beer

CONVICTED (2022) | Dean Beer, born c. 1965, of Wentloog Close, Cwmbran NP44 3PP – filmed himself having sex with his dog and sent the footage to an unidentified party.

Dean Beer
Sick pervert Dean Beer has returned to Cwmbran, believed to be his town of origin.

Depraved Beer, a father-of-two, recorded himself sexually abusing the dog, before sending the footage to another person via Facebook Messenger.

The disturbing footage was uncovered when the police went to Beer’s home after receiving information from the National Crime Agency about the uploading of an indecent image.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard his phone also contained two inaccessible category C photos of young girls aged between 13 and 15 and extreme pornographic images of women having penetrative sexual activity with dogs and a horse.

The defendant had also searched the term ‘dog porn’ six times.

Beer, formerly of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, was described in court as having an ‘unhealthy and depraved interest in bestiality’.

The fate of the dog is unknown.

Prosecutor Maria Brannan said police received information from the National Crime Agency and officers attended the defendant’s home on July 21, 2020.

Miss Brannan said: ‘A Land Rover mobile phone was recovered. It contained two inaccessible category C images featuring girls aged between 13 and 15; three accessible extreme pornographic images and six still and two moving images of adult females having penetrative sexual activity with dogs and a horse.

‘The search term ‘dog porn’ was used six times. conversation was found on Facebook messenger between the defendant, ‘Taffy Dean’, and a person who has not been arrested.

‘The conversation concerned sexual abuse of the defendant’s dog. The other person encouraged the defendant to film himself performing a penetrative sex act on his dog. The defendant did the act and sent the film to the other person.’

Beer pleaded guilty to possession of indecent images of children; possession of an extreme pornographic image; intercourse with an animal; and publishing an obscene article.

Andrew Molloy, mitigating, said the defendant, who has no previous convictions, has now “lost his good character”. Mr Molloy said: ‘He is quite embarrassed about his conduct. He says it is out of character for him to behave in this way.

‘It is almost two years since and he has not been involved in any trouble. He has self-referred to a mental health institution and is engaging well.’
He said the defendant no longer has the dog and urged Judge David Fletcher to suspend the sentence.

But the judge said only an immediate jail sentence was appropriate.

Judge Fletcher said: “The exchanges on Facebook were some of the most sickening exchanges I have ever had to read about and deal with. You are someone who had an unhealthy and depraved interest in bestiality. Penetrating your own pet dog with your penis is as shocking as it is depraved.”

Sentencing | nine months in jail; given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for the same period. The judge ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the phone.

Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute: Rory Knox

CONVICTED (2022) | Rory Knox, born c. 1982, of Scott Court, Helensburgh G84 8BS – inserted a sex toy into a dog, where it became stuck.

Depraved Rory Knox attacked the unnamed female dog, who belonged to his then partner, on April 18. 2021.

The sickening incident took place at the woman’s home in Milton of Campsie, East Dunbartonshire, while Knox was alone with the pet.

Knox called his partner to inform her what he had done.

Fiscal depute Ross Harris told the court: “He asked if she could speak. He stated, ‘I have went and done something really stupid’.

“He went on to say he was playing about with the dog and got the sex toy stuck inside her.

“A few hours later, the woman noticed the dog appeared stressed. The accused asked several times for the dog not to be taken to the vet as he would be arrested.

“The woman took the dog to the vet the next day.

“The vet’s clinical director spoke to the woman, and she said she had noticed the dog’s external genital area swollen and informed him what the accused said.

“The dog was examined and appeared calm and not in any distress. Her genital area was swollen and dry.

“The initial examination returned nothing of note. The dog was taken for an X-ray and a rectal examination, and the object was taken out of the dog.

“It was an 8-10cm sex toy.”

The clinical director informed the woman he would be reporting the matter to the SSPCA, and she said she was happy with this and had been considering calling the police herself.

She called Knox and told him how much the vet bill was. He deposited the £338 into her bank account.

Meanwhile, Knox, who had returned to his home town Helensburgh, got a visit from police and was arrested in the early hours of April 20, 2021.

He provided a “no comment” answer to all questions and remained in custody pending further enquiries.

Mr Harris said: “The police attended at the vet and seized photos of the sex toy and X-rays. The woman stated it was similar to the one she had bought the accused at Christmas as a joke.

“He was arrested and charged and replied, ‘I accept that’.”

Knox appeared in court for sentencing after pleading guilty to causing the animal unnecessary suffering

His lawyer said the incident cost him a lengthy relationship.

He added: “It’s a bad offence and not really one that can be mitigated. At the time, his life was particularly chaotic. He was gripped by cocaine use.

“The matter is serious and also quite bizarre. This man clearly needs help. Supervision would provide that and hopefully, reduce the risk of further offending.

“There also requires to be a punitive element here. He would comply with any order.

“As bad as the offence is, there is an appropriate reaction to it. His admittance of it to the complainer, him covering the vet bill she required to pay on the day and his acceptance when charged. There was a degree of responsibility taken by him.”

Sheriff Shona Gilroy said: “Thankfully there is no long-term injury for this dog. What is concerning is the degree of self-pity about the situation you find yourself in.

“I do agree that there needs to be some examination regarding your motivation around this offence.”

Sentencing: one-year supervision order; 100-day tagging order. Disqualified from keeping, owning or being responsible for any animal for seven years.

Northwich, Cheshire: Claire/John Goodier

CONVICTED (2021) | transvestite Claire Goodier, born c. 1960, of Weaver View Flats, Spencer Street, Northwich CW8 1BP – had cocaine-fuelled group sex with a dog and possessed images of the depraved act.

Claire Goodier

Lifelong pervert Goodier, a twice-convicted paedophile previously known as John Ernest Goodier, admitted five charges, including one for the possession of seven half-gram bags of cocaine.

The most serious of the charges related to one where Goodier allowed himself to be penetrated by an Alsatian dog at an unspecified location in Bournemouth on December 15 and 16, 2018.

He also admitted being in possession of 31 extreme pornographic images of a German Shepherd dog having sex with a person, which were grossly offensive, disgusting or otherwise of an obscene character.

As well as admitting being in possession of other offensive images, Goodier also failed to comply with the notification requirements of the sex offenders register.

He pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to conduct his annual notification on November 5, 2020.

Goodier was caught after police attended her home on July 19, 2019, to carry out a routine check due to him being on the sex offenders register for life.

Officers took a laptop which contained evidence Goodier had searched the internet for bestiality content and when a full analysis of the equipment was finally completed some two years later, it emerged hidden folders contained 31 indecent images of Goodier taking part in the sex act with the dog.

Goodier told officers he had fantasised about it for a number of years and after talking about it with people in Northwich, was put in touch with others in Bournemouth.

He travelled down there in December 2018 and took part in the sex act with other people and the dog.

At the time of his arrest on June 17, 2021, police also found another pen drive in his handbag containing the same images and 3.5 grammes of cocaine.

When he committed the sex act, Goodier had also been in breach of a suspended sentence order, which had been imposed in May 2018 for failing to adhere to the terms of a sexual harm prevention order.

Goodier had also failed to comply with the terms of the sexual harm prevention order in November 2020, when he was 13 days late contacting the police after being in isolation due to Covid guidelines.

Sending Goodier to prison, Judge Steven Everett told him he agreed with the probation service assessing him as being a low risk of re-offending.

He told Goodier: “You are a long, long way from changing your life.

“You deceitfully took part in a cocaine-fuelled incident with other persons.

“Since the terrible offence took place you kept the images unashamedly for your own sexual gratification.

“In the middle of all this, you failed to comply with the terms of an order, which some might say is a minor breach, but it’s not for the first time.

“Your record is appalling and it could be said you were astonishingly lucky not to go to prison previously.

“A message must go out that if you commit such disgusting behaviour then you must go to prison.”

Goodier sobbed in the dock as he was told he will serve 20 months behind bars, which included the activation of the four-month sentence he had in suspension when committing the act.

Chester Standard

Additional information:

The Daily Mail reports that Goodier has been sent to a men’s prison because he is not legally female.

Goodier has identified as a woman for at least two years and was referred to as Claire and ‘she’ during his Chester Crown Court case.

He has been sent to Liverpool’s HMP Altcourse, which is .a Category B men’s private prison and Young Offender Institution.

A source said: “Prisoners go to whichever prison matches their legally recognised gender.

“This defendant is in a male prison, HMP Altcourse.”

Goodier was identified in court listings under a male name but with a note added to be addressed in the hearing as Claire. A Sexual Harm Prevention Order issued is under that female identity.

The Gender Recognition Act 2004 allows people to change their legal sex and obtain a Gender Recognition certificate proving it – which is valid in prisons.

Acklam, Middlesbrough: Paul Tweedy

CONVICTED (2021) | Paul Tweedy, born c. 1976, of Trimdon Avenue, Acklam, Middlesbrough TS5 – possession of extreme pornography involving a live animal and images of child sexual abuse.

Paul Tweedy pictured outside court.

Sick Tweedy was caught with illegal images of children being sexually abused, as well as an extreme image of a sex act involving a pig.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children; one count of the distribution of an indecent image of a child and to the possession of an extreme pornographic image of a person performing an act of intercourse with a live animal, between March 4, 2019 and April 23, 2021.

The court heard that Tweedy had, “lost his good character in the community” following his arrest, and had to relinquish his position of captain of his local darts team, and leave the cricket team he played for.

It was also heard that Tweedy’s partner is standing by him and she offered a character reference to the court.

Police raided Tweedy’s home after being tipped off by another branch who had uncovered Tweedy uploading an indecent image of a child aged between 10-12, from a Kik chatroom.

Forensic officers found eleven illegal images and videos on Tweedy’s mobile phone.

Four were in the most serious category and featured girls aged 4-11 in, “obvious pain and distress” being sexually abused.

Tweedy had opened a Kik account with the username, ‘HandyAndy’.
Police traced the user’s IP to Tweedy’s previous address on Edgeworth Court in Hemlington.

Defending Tweedy, Kelleigh Lodge said that he genuinely regretted his actions and was, “disgusted at some of the images”.

Miss Lodge told the court that Tweedy had downloaded Kik with the intention of chatting with adults on the site that boasts, “anything goes” and that he had inadvertently come across the images of children being abused.

But Judge Jonathan Carroll told Miss Lodge: “I find that difficult to accept. If you stumble across those images you don’t stay in the chatroom and don’t save any. I know what he says and I reject that submission”.

Tweedy said he was only attracted to women over the age of 16, and men over the age of 18.

Sentencing: eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 24-months; 120 hours of unpaid work; curfew; 25 rehabilitation days. Ordered to attend a training programme for offenders who access child abuse online. He was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order for ten years and will sign the sex offenders register.

Kirkby, Merseyside: Ronald Hardcastle

CONVICTED (2021) | Ronald Hardcastle, born c. 1956, of Southney Close, Kirkby, Liverpool L31 1JR – downloaded dozens of indecent images showing bestiality and child sex abuse.

Ronald Hardcastle. Picture: Liverpool Echo.
Ronald Hardcastle. Picture: Liverpool Echo.

Former police officer Hardcastle was caught with almost 300 images on his mobile phone depicting the depraved sexual abuse of children and animals.

The 65-year-old married father admitted he had chosen the online user name of ‘Bad Uncle James’ “to attract other users who might have an interest in indecent images.”

Hardcastle’s sordid behaviour came to light during investigations by the child exploitation unit of the National Crime Agency (NCA) into illegal activity on a Kik Messenger account.

This led officers from Merseyside Police’s online child abuse team, armed with a search warrant, to his home in Kirkby on February 16, 2021.

During the searches various electronic devices were seized.

When his Samsung mobile phone was examined, a total of 275 indecent images – including 202 videos and 29 photographs of extreme porn – were found.

Another 18 images were in the most serious category of child abuse, which includes rape, and 17 of them were videos.

Hardcastle had worked for Merseyside Police for about 30 years and after retiring 11 years ago joined an agency supplying staff to police forces which resulted in him spending four years working as a civilian with Greater Manchester Police.

For some of that time he worked with their child protection department “and had been responsible for categorising images of this sort.”

The case prosecutor queried whether looking at the images in that role had distorted Hardcastle’s thinking or whether he had sought it because of a pre-existing interest.

The job ended after he was involved in a serious accident which left him with broken bones and in hospital for some months. Hardcastle told how “he ended up on anti-depressants and became isolated from his ‘police family’ and became curious about that sort of material having worked in that area.”

In interview Hardcastle said he was not aware possession of the bestiality material was an offence “and found it amusing rather than gratifying.”

Hardcastle pleaded guilty to seven offences involving possessing and making indecent images of children; possessing extreme porn for and distribution, all in January and February 2021.

Hardcastle said he was ashamed of his behaviour and denied having sexual interest in children.

Hardcastle, who attended court on crutches and holding medication, was being supported by his wife and son, who both sat in the public gallery.

Sentencing: 12 months’ imprisonment suspended for 18 months; four-month curfew; 10 days of rehabilitation activity; participation in a sex offenders programme. Given a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register, also for ten years.

Scottish Bestiality Ring members: Mark Findlater, Joshua Lee-Paterson and Jordan Turnbull

CONVICTED (2021) | zoophiles Mark Findlater, born c. 1987, of Sidlaw Range, Kirriemuir DD8 5DW, Joshua Lee-Paterson, born c. 2000, of Millden Steading West, House West, Balmedie, Aberdeen AB23 8YY, and Jordan Turnbull, born c. 1992, of Meigle Street, Galashiels, TD1 1LN.

Horse rapists Jordan Turnbull (left) and Joshua Lee-Paterson

Jordan Turnbull and Joshua Lee-Paterson each admitted having an “unnatural connection” with separate horses at Cothal Farm in Fintray.

Serial offender Mark Findlater pictured during his previous prosecution case. He was said to have coerced the other two into raping the ponies

A third male, Mark Findlater, admitted a charge of distributing “obscene material” of his co-accused “engaging in sexual activities with horses”.

The incident happened in a small wooden stable in a field.

At the time, the Shetland ponies – named Jack and Ruby – were owned by Findlater.

The court heard Findlater was in a relationship with Turnbull and Lee-Paterson at different times.

Jordan Turnbull

Both men blamed him, claiming he controlled and manipulated them into attacking the horses.

Lee-Paterson said he was trying to protect the animals.

Prosecutor Colin Neilson told the court: “He said that Findlater had threatened to harm the horses if he didn’t carry out the acts.”

All of the depraved incidents, during which an air compression device was used, were captured on a mobile phone.

Findlater, who has a past conviction for possession of animal pornography, insisted he had not witnessed the sickening attacks and received the images on social media.

Between January 17 and February 11, 2020, Findlater sent a number of packages to people containing letters “describing the acts of bestiality undertaken by the co-accused” along with images depicting the acts.

The images were sent to various people including the manager of a hotel, residents of several farms and cottages, and a newspaper reporter.

Joshua Lee-Paterson

Solicitor Stuart Murray, representing Lee-Paterson, said the offence had taken place when his client was “on the cusp of turning 18”.

He added a court-ordered social work report contained discussion over concerns of “controlling and coercive behaviour” from Findlater.

Regarding the offence, Mr Murray went on: “He’s struggling to come to terms with the fact he has taken part in that type of behaviour.

“The report states Mr Paterson was not driven or motivated by any sexual attraction to animals.”

The solicitor said his client suffered from “worrying mental health issues and had been “coerced” into committing the offence.

Defence agent James Caird, representing Findlater, said: “He was not involved in the abuse of the animals or in any way present when the photos were taken.

“He received these images as a member of a social media group.”

Mr Caird said his client suffered from mental health problems, adding: “His position is he was a whistle-blower in this matter.”

The solicitor accepted Findlater had a previous conviction for possession of “similar material”.

Lawyer Mathew Patrick, appearing for Turnbull, said his client had also been pressured into committing the offence.

He said: “Were it not for that intimidation, it’s certain, Mr Turnbull’s position is, this offence would not have taken place.”

Mr Patrick said his client is “otherwise a respectable member of society” and runs his own firm.

He explained Turnbull suffered from psychological difficulties, added: “It does seem to me he’s easily open to suggestion and easily led and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if that played some part in this.”

Sentencing:
Findlater – jailed for 13 months and two weeks.
Lee-Paterson – 18 months supervision and 225 hours of unpaid work. He was also made subject to the notification requirements of the Sexual Offences Act for 18 months.
Turnbull – jailed for seven months and made subject to the notification requirements for 10 years.

None of them were banned from keeping or having access to animals.

Update October 2022

Operation Frankish 2 – Cage The Monsters (OF) revealed on their Facebook page that Jordan Turnbull was working as a coach driver with Edinburgh Coach Lines, and dealing with members of the public, including children, on a daily basis.

Suspecting that Edinburgh Coach Lines was unaware of their employee’s sick past, OF reached out but the company’s response was muted to say the least.

So OF went to the papers and on 18 October 2022 The Sun ran a story on the scandal, with their reporter confronting Turnbull at his workplace.

Like his (hopefully now former) employer, Turnbull had little to say.

Excellent work as ever by OF as another animal abuser learns the hard way that their vile behaviour will neither be forgiven, nor forgotten.

Loftus, North Yorkshire: Chloe Simpson

CONVICTED (2021) | Chloe Simpson, born c. 1997, of St Hilda’s Terrace, Loftus, Saltburn-by-the-Sea TS13 4SE – carried out sexual acts on two dogs; amassed a sickening catalogue of child and animal abuse

Chloe Simpson

A total of 308 images of two dogs being sexually abused were stored on depraved Chloe Simpson’s digital equipment.

Simpson, who is transitioning to a man, was also caught with child abuse images, extreme pornography, involving animals, and a prohibited image of a child, when police raided her home.

The court heard how images and videos of sex acts on a “small white dog” were recovered as well as 33 extreme pornographic images involving horses and dogs.

A second laptop also contained four category A images, involving children between seven and 10-years-old, and another iPhone with one prohibited category A image.

A vet said that the white dog had suffered no lasting injury but had been exposed to the risk of infection and peritonitis.

Simpson pleaded guilty to a catalogue of offences, including possession of child abuse images and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

Chris Morrison, defending, said that she was a vulnerable person who was the carer for her grandmother, and her activities had centred around using her iPhones and laptops to visit the internet.

The court heard how Simpson was the primary carer for her grandmother but had moved out of her home for fear of ”Neanderthal’ repercussions.

Mr Morrison said his client’s mother had ‘washed her hands of her’ while she maintained that she had no sexual interest in children but offered up no excuse for her behaviour.

Judge Jonathan Carroll refuted her claim that she had no sexual interest in the material she was downloading and watching but accepted that she had had a difficult childhood and struggled with her sexual identity throughout her life.

Sentencing: ten-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. Ten-year sexual harm order. Ten-year ban on owning animals (expires June 2031).

Update | September 2023

Simpson was handed another suspended sentence after failing to comply with the sex offender notification requirements and breaching a sexual harm prevention order.

On Friday September 22, 2023, Simpson appeared back in court for offences which took place in July 2022 while she was subjected to the suspended sentence order.

Teesside Crown Court heard how Simpson was discovered with seven aliases and had turned on software which meant her internet browsing history was deleted after every use over a period of more than six months.

Simpson fully admitted the latest charges against her.

Recorder Andrew Dallas told Simpson: “You come here in extreme peril today. The probation service, recognising this, have been carefully considering what [provisions] should be made were I to send you to custody today.

“You have come within the nearest whisker of being sent to custody.”

The court heard that, other than this, Simpson, who was represented by Paul Abrahams, has complied with all of the rehabilitation activity requirement days and there have been no other reported breaches in the 14 months since the offence took place.

Recorder Dallas said: “There does prevail a realistic prospect of rehabilitation in your case.”

He handed Simpson, still of St Hilda’s Terrace, Loftus, a 12 month sentence suspended for two years. Simpson must carry out an additional 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days and pay a £50 fine.

Backyard breeder Katrina Parkinson made three sordid videos showing her having sex with between five and seven puppies. Parkinson sent the videos via WhatsApp to her boyfriend, Peter Brooks, in a sad attempt to reignite his interest in her. The pair then exchanged a series of “jokey” messages about the videos.

There was no evidence that the puppies had been harmed and the pair do not appear to have sent the videos to anyone else.

A further 13 extreme pornographic pictures and videos of sexual activity between people and dogs and horses were found on Parkinson’s electronic devices.

Katrina Parkinson

Mother-of-two Parkinson, who works as a massage therapist, pleaded guilty to possession of 13 extreme pornographic images and publishing three extreme pornographic videos. Brooks, who also has children, admitted possessing an extreme pornographic image.

Parkinson’s lawyer told the court his client had paid paid a heavy price as social services became involved and her children no longer live with her.

puppy rapist Katrina Kirkby / Parkinson from Wigan

Judge Suzanne Goddard QC described the videos as “utterly disgusting and depraved”.

“Society finds the keeping of images such as these, let alone the creation of them, as utterly repugnant,” she said.

“The facts of this case are utterly repugnant to ordinary, decent members of society.”

Sentencing:
Parkinson – six-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months. 150 hours of unpaid work and 20 days of rehabilitation activities.
