Stapleton pleaded guilty to failing to meet the needs of five cats at Rodda Close, Gunnislake, east Cornwall, in 2023 by not keeping them in a suitable environment.

Wills pleaded not guilty to the same charges but had the case proved against her.

The offences merited a custodial sentence because of the prolonged period of neglect resulting in the death of several animals, the serious level of suffering and because they ignored advice.

Stapleton: 10 weeks in jail, suspended for 18 months.
Willis: 13 weeks in jail, suspended for 18 months.
Both must pay £400 costs and £154 victim surcharge.
Both are banned from keeping any animal for ten years (expires September 2034).
