Cumberland Council’s environmental health team became aware of the poor environment at Storey’s breeding kennels following an anonymous call.

A subsequent inspection by a Cumberland Council environmental health office revealed that Storey was keeping many more dogs and puppies on the premises than her license allowed for. A lack of staffing and poor facilities meant that the dogs’ needs were not being met.

Cumberland Council, which brought the prosecution, said Storey, who trades under the name Cumbria Cockapoos, has been reported to the RSPCA and would receive unannounced follow-up visits.
