CONVICTED (2024) | Jasmine Stevens, aka Jasmine Davies, born 26 January 2001, from Galashiels – for the neglect of a dog found at her stinking home in a skeletal condition and with no access to food or water.

Cruel single mother Jasmine Stevens kept the unnamed lurcher-type dog in a cage with no bedding, resulting in sores. The floor was covered in faeces and there was a strong smell of urine.

Officers from the Scottish SPCA, who were responding to a call to their helpline, took the dog to a local vets where he/she immediately finished food and water offered.

The animal required a number of surgeries and treatments, and was signed over to their care.

Stevens admitted causing a dog unnecessary suffering, by failing to provide appropriate care, between April and June 2023.

Her solicitor, Mat Patrick, blamed the break-up of an abusive relationship for his client’s behaviour.

Sheriff Ian Anderson said the public are “naturally horrified” when animals are treated in this way, but recognised Stevens’ “poor mental health” at the time.

Sentencing | 60 hours of unpaid work. Banned from keeping animals for four years (expires July 2028).

  1. The pathetic excuses rubbish like this comes up with. She has the nerve to put a photo of a dog on Facebook knowing what she has been guilty of. Yuck.
